  Stages of Breathing in Yoga
The cycle of yoga breathing is broken down into several parts and is a mind-body yoga practice. The philosophy of yoga incorporates breath with yoga poses for not only increased health benefits, but also a better understanding of each yoga position, or asana. As you learn more about yoga asana and exercise, we will take you through the stages of yoga breath as an integral part of your yoga study.

Pranayama - Stages of Breathing in Yoga

Yoga breath is conscious breath. Yoga pranayama is engaging the mind and systems of the body to perform this automatic reflex through introspection and practice. Pranayama is the relationship between our human emotions relative to body chemistry.

Most of us seek to better ourselves. Practice of Yoga Breath brings our mind the freedom to evolve.

Stages of Yoga Breathing

Respiration is a four-part process to bring youthfulness and longevity. The process of respiration includes:
  1. Inhalation - Taking in Oxygen (Vata)
  2. Pause - Assimilate Oxygen (Pitta)
  3. Exhalation - Release Carbon Dioxide (Kapha)
  4. Pause - Re-assimilate before Inhalation (Pitta)
Prolonging pauses brings benefit to the yogi in the forms of physical and mental health. Practice of Yoga Asana strengthens organs used in Respiration, therefore yoga practice is essential for pranayama practice.
